Wikipedia Profile

Christopher "Chris" Redfield is a fictional character in the Resident Evil video game series. He is first introduced in the original Resident Evil as one of the title's two main protagonists. He is a member of the fictional task force S.T.A.R.S. and serves as Alpha Team's pointman. As a former member of the United States Air Force, Chris is also an experienced fighter pilot. Redfield would return again as a playable character in Resident Evil Code: Veronica, who must search for, and ultimately rescue, his younger sister. He was voiced by Scott McCulloch (credited as "Charlie") in the original Resident Evil, Michael Fipowich in Resident Evil Code: Veronica and Joe Whyte in the Nintendo GameCube remake of the original title.

History

Chris' first debuts in the original Resident Evil title alongside fellow S.T.A.R.S. operative Jill Valentine. Chris' story is significantly harder than Jill's, due to Chris having a reduced carrying capacity, the abscence of items such as the lockpick and grenade launcher afforded to Jill, and a far more passive supporting character. However, Chris' hardened physique allows him to sustain more damage than Jill. His partner in the game is Rebecca Chambers, a rookie member of S.T.A.R.S. Bravo Team who assists Chris with her expertise in chemistry and medicine.

Chris would be absent in Resident Evil 2. Instead, his younger sister, Claire, serves as one of the lead characters in his place. Claire's plot revolves around her search for Chris following the events of the first game. It is later revealed that Chris had left Raccoon City, heading to Europe in order to further investigate the illegal activities of the Umbrella Corporation. However, Chris would appear as a bonus playable character in later versions of the release in the "Extreme Battle" minigame.

Chris makes a canonical return as a lead character in Resident Evil Code: Veronica. Following the events during the first half of the game, the player takes control of Chris after learning of Claire's imprisonment on Rockfort Island. His mission takes him into Umbrella's secret lab in Antarctica, where he confronts Alexia Ashford, the creator of the T-Veronica Virus, and a ressurected Albert Wesker. He manages to save Claire and the two make their escape from the facility, vowing to destroy Umbrella together.

Wardrobe

In the original Resident Evil, Chris wore a standard S.T.A.R.S. uniform consisting of grey pants, a green tactical vest with a knife holster, and a white T-shirt. His alternate costume was a casual outfit featuring a brown bomber jacket with a "Made in Heaven" design on the back. In the Saturn version, he wears an unlockable black standard S.T.A.R.S. uniform. In Resident Evil: Director's Cut, his standard outfit is a plain grey T-shirt with shoulder pads and a gun holster.

Although not involved in the main game, in the "Extreme Battle" mode of Resident Evil 2, he still wears his standard S.T.A.R.S. outfit from the first game, but with subtle modifications such as a "Made in Heaven" design on the back and elbow pads.

In Resident Evil Code: Veronica, he wears an olive green outfit with a black S.T.A.R.S. vest. According to the developers, this was a prototype uniform that was scheduled to be adopted by S.T.A.R.S. prior, but wasn't due to the unit's untimely destruction after the first game. Instead, Chris took the prototype outfit with him when he left Raccoon City.

In the Resident Evil remake, his Code: Veronica outfit is unlockable along with an original skater outfit. In Deadly Silence (the Nintendo DS version of the original), Chris' casual outfit from the first game can be unlocked, as well as a ninja outfit in the game's "Rebirth" mode.

Other Media

During the release of the Sega Saturn version, Resident Evil, Capcom published a promotional sourcebook titled The True Story Behind Biohazard as a pre-order giveaway. The book contains an original short story titled Biohazard: The Beginning by Hiroyuku Ariga. The story depicts the events prior to the first game and fleshes out his character, describing the deaths of his parents in a car accident and his service in the Air Force. It should be noted that this story does not fit in the current version of the games' canon due to the way the series evolved. Chris also appears in the novelizations of the games written by S.D. Perry.

Actor Charlie Clausen is set to play Chris Redfield in the upcoming 2007 film Resident Evil: Extinction.
